Road crash on Dhaka-Mawa Expressway claims four lives

A passenger bus hit a parked ambulance from rear on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway near Nimtala in Sirajdikhan upazila of Munshiganj, killing four members of a family. 

The incident occurred around 12:30 pm on Thursday in front of the Nimtala Talukder Pump.

The ambulance had stopped on the busy highway due to a punctured tire. 

While stationary, a Dhaka-bound Golden Paribahan bus struck it from behind, leaving a 35-year-old woman dead on the scene, and five others critically injured. 

Three of the injured—Samad Fakir, 60, his daughter Afsana, 20, and son Hafez Billal, 40, all from Dakshin Tutkhali village in Madaripur Sadar upazila—later succumbed to their injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). 

The ambulance driver, Mahbub Sardar (28), also died in the incident.

Hasara Highway Police Station OC Abdul Quader Jilani said the bus likely hit passengers standing behind the ambulance, as the vehicle itself sustained minimal damage. 

Md. Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, confirmed the bodies are in the hospital morgue for autopsy.
