DSCC demolishes illegal structures in Suhrawardy Udyan

The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has launched a drive to demolish illegal shops and other structures at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital. 

The drive began at around 9am on Thursday (May 15) near the gate adjacent to the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) of Dhaka University.

The operation is being carried out under the supervision of DSCC Executive Magistrate Md Aminul Islam.

Several hundred illegal shops and structures inside Suhrawardy Udyan have been demolished already.

A Dhaka University (DU) student was stabbed to death at Suhrawardy Udyan at around midnight on Tuesday. The incident started a round of criticism about the Udyan's security. In light of the situation, the government decided to take several steps to improve the security situation, including the demolition drive.
