Shammo murder: Shahbagh police station surrounded

Protesters surrounded Shahbagh Police Station on Friday, demanding the prompt arrest of all those involved in the murder of Dhaka University (DU) student and Chhatra Dal leader Shahriar Alam Shammo.

Under the banner of "General Student Community", a large number of students marched to the police station and stayed there for around one and a half hours. They also gave a 48-hour ultimatum for the arrest of the "real perpetrators" of the murder. 

Taking position outside the station premises, they chanted slogans such as "We demand justice for Shammo's murder," "We want a campus free of outsiders," and "We want justice," among others.

They demanded the immediate arrest of all those involved in the murder case, a fair trial, and a safe campus. 

Shahriar Alam Shammo was stabbed to death on Tuesday night near Suhrawardy Udyan.

The victim's brother has filed a case at Shahbagh Police Station. The DU administration has formed an investigation committee regarding the murder.

So far, police have arrested three outsiders in connection with the case. They have been sent to jail through the court.
