Momtaz sent to jail after remand

A Dhaka court has ordered to send former lawmaker from Manikganj and eminent singer Momtaz Begum to jail after ending her four-day remand in a murder case.

Metropolitan Magistrate (MM) Minhajul Islam gave the order after IO of the case Monirul Islam produced Momtaz before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court, seeking court order to confine the accused into the jail until the investigation is ended.

Rejecting bail petition, the metropolitan magistrate asked to send Momtaz to jail.

On May 12, detectives arrested Momtaz from city’s Dhanmondi area. Later, she was put on a four-day remand in connection with Sagor murder case under Mirpur Model thana. 

Sagor was shot dead near Mirpur intersection on July 29 during attending a procession of anti-discrimination students’ movement.
