A separate fund is being set up to manage looters' seized money and blocked shares, said Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Ahsan H. Mansur.

He also said this money will be returned to the banks from which it was looted.

“Depositors' money will be returned from this fund. Another part will be spent on the welfare of the poor,” Mansur elaborated.

He was speaking at a press conference organized at the Foreign Service Academy on Monday.

Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam and BFIU Chief AFM Shahinul Islam were present at the time.

The governor said, “This new fund can be formed and used during this government's term as these funds are already under the control of the government. It will be possible to operate the fund's activities as soon as possible.”

Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur said that Islami Bank is the largest bank that has seized shares of S Alam Group worth Tk 12,000 crore to 15,000 crore.

“These shares will be transferred to a strategic investor and the seized money will be returned to the depositors,” he said.
