Noble lands in jail in rape case

A court in Dhaka has ordered to send singer Mainul Ahsan Noble in a case involving allegations of kidnapping and rape. 

Noble was brought before the court at 2:45 pm on Tuesday, with the state’s lawyer appearing at 3:05 pm. 

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate court Judge Zia Uddin Ahmed, entered the courtroom at 3:07 pm and commenced the proceedings.

The case’s investigation officer, Demra Police Station Inspector Murad Hossain, urged court to confine him in jail, while Noble’s lawyers sought bail. 

During the hearing, Noble’s counsel argued that Noble and the complainant were married at the time of the alleged incident and that the complainant, Noble’s wife, was four months pregnant. 

The state’s lawyers opposed the bail application.

After considering both arguments, the court rejected Noble’s bail plea and ordered to send him jail. 

Noble was arrested at his residence in the Demra staff quarters around 2:00 am on Monday.

According to Demra Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Mahmudur Rahman, the victim, a student at Eden College, filed a case alleging that Noble abducted her, held her hostage, and raped her for seven months under the pretense of marriage. 

She has been referred to the One-Stop Crisis Center at Dhaka Medical College for support.

In 2023, Noble was arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) police in a separate fraud case.
