Businessman shot and robbed of Tk22 lakh in Mirpur

Assailants shot at and robbed businessman Mahmudul Islam of Tk 22 lakh in a broad daylight in Dhaka’s Mirpur.

The incident took place around 10 am on Tuesday in the Fire Service lane, as confirmed by Mirpur Police Station OC Sazzad Roman.

A viral social media video captured the robbery. It showed a masked man wearing a cap firing shots before fleeing with five accomplices on two motorcycles. 

Police are analysing the video and CCTV footage to identify the culprits, with multiple teams deployed to ensure swift justice.

Mahmudul, a resident of Lane 4, Section 6, Mirpur, recounted the ordeal to reporters. 

He said that when he was en route to a money exchange office at Mirpur-10 when six robbers on motorcycles blocked his path and demanded the money. 

When he resisted, they fired shots, snatched the Tk22 lakh, and escaped the spot, he added. 

Bystanders rushed him to a local hospital, and he was later transferred to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
