Trawler capsizes in Hatia; 19 missing

A trawler carrying 39 passengers capsized in the Meghna River near Hatia of Noakhali around 4:00 pm on Saturday. 

Hatia Police Station OC (Investigation) Khorshed Alam confirmed the incident to The Daily Samakal, stating that the trawler was traveling from Bhasanchar to Hatia when it was overturned by strong waves.

Of the 39 passengers, 20 managed to swim to shore, while 19 remain missing, he added.

The navy personnel have initiated a rescue operation to locate the missing individuals, according to OC Khorshed Alam.
