SC orders EC to restore Jamaat's registration

The Supreme Court's Appellate Division has ordered the Election Commission (EC) to revoke Jamaat-e-Islami's registration as a political party.

A four-judge bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed gave the verdict on Sunday morning.

At the same time, the Appellate Division's verdict has overturned the High Court's verdict that had cancelled Jamaat's registration.

Consequently, there is no longer any obstacle to Jamaat's participation as a political party in the upcoming national elections. With this verdict, the party is becoming active again in elections after 2018.
