Proposed budget announcement begins

Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed has started announcing the proposed budget for the upcoming 2025-26 fiscal year.

The budget speech of the Finance Adviser began broadcasting on Bangladesh Television at 3:00 pm on Monday.

This is the first budget of the interim government and the 54th in the country's history.

The Ministry of Finance said that the highest priority has been given to controlling inflation, increasing revenue collection and restoring macroeconomic stability in this year's budget.

The size of the budget is less than the current 2024-25 fiscal year. The size of the last budget proposed during the Awami League government was Tk7,97,000 crore, which was presented by the then Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali. 

However, due to cuts in the middle of the current fiscal year, the implementable size of that budget stood at Tk7,89,998 crore.
