Law enforcement agencies ready for upcoming elections: Home Adviser

Law enforcement agencies are prepared for the upcoming parliamentary elections, said Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.

He told reporters after a post-Eid courtesy call and a core committee meeting at the Home Ministry meeting room at the Secretariat on Sunday.

When asked whether the law enforcement agencies are prepared if elections are held, given the possibility of an election in a meeting with Tarique Rahman in London, the Home Affairs Adviser said, "The Election Commission will give the election schedule. I think our law enforcement agencies are prepared for that time when they decide the election date. Our police are also ready."

In response to the question that the police have not yet been activated, he said, “Who said this! If you think like the previous 15 years, that the police will beat you up, we do not want that kind of police. We want humane police who will treat everyone well.”

Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said, “The current police are humane police. Seeing how they behave well now, the general public thinks that the police are not active. But the police are more active than before.”

Pointing to the journalists, he said, “Today, we all came together to exchange Eid greetings. The law and order situation was satisfactory this time. You also wrote this.”
