Tureen Afroz shown arrested in madrasa student killing case

A Dhaka court on Wednesday showed arrested former prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Barrister Tureen Afroz in a case lodged over the murder of madrasa student Arafat Hossain during the July-August mass uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate M Mejbah Ur Rahman passed the order as police produced Tureen before the court and pleaded to show her arrested in the case.

According to the case documents, Arafat, 12, a student of Jamia Rowjatul Ulm Madrasa in Uttara Sector-5, got shot on August 5 as he joined an anti-discrimination rally in the area. He died of his injuries at Combined Military Hospital in the capital on December 22. 

Arafat's elder brother Md Hasan Ali, 21, filed the case with the Uttara West Police Station.

Barrister Tureen Afroz was arrested at her Uttara home on April 7, 2025 and was shown arrested in a murder attempt case. She was placed on a four-day remand in that case.
