2yrs punishment for false calcimining of July uprising benefits

The government has issued an ordinance imposing penalties, including imprisonment and fines, for individuals who fraudulently claim benefits by providing false information to pose as injured persons or family members of martyrs of the July Uprising.

Under the 'Welfare and Rehabilitation of Families of Martyrs of the July Uprising and July Fighters Ordinance, 2025,' those found guilty face up to two years in prison and a fine of Tk 200,000 or double the amount of benefits received.

The ordinance was published in a gazette by the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs on Tuesday night and takes effect immediately.

It includes provisions for one-time and monthly financial assistance to the injured and martyrs who contributed to ousting the Awami League government.

The ordinance aims to uphold the spirit and ideals of the July Uprising in state and national life, support the welfare and rehabilitation of martyrs' families and July fighters, and preserve the historical significance of the event.
