DSCC administrator returns to Nagar Bhaban after 43 days

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md. Shahjahan Mia returned to Nagar Bhaban, the corporation's head office, after a 43-day.

He reached office around 1:30 pm on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters at Nagar Bhaban, Md. Shahjahan Mia emphasised moving forward, stating, "We don’t want to look back anymore. We will prioritise key tasks, including swiftly completing the budget preparation." 

He announced that all DSCC departments would resume operations immediately and called on engineers and officials to return to work. 

Several engineering department officials were seen entering Nagar Bhaban on the day.

Upon his arrival, Md. Shahjahan Mia was welcomed by Arif Chowdhury and Belayet Hossain Babu, leaders of a Jatiyatabadi Sramik Union faction supporting BNP leader Ishraque. 

They pledged full cooperation to the city authorities. 

Arif Chowdhury noted that Ishraque had instructed Dhaka residents and supporters to assist the administrator and engineering departments.

Previously, since May 14, supporters of BNP leader Ishraque Hossain, under the banner of 'Dhakabasi,' had been protesting at Nagar Bhaban, demanding that Ishraque be appointed mayor of DSCC. 

This movement prevented the administrator from accessing the Nagar Bhaban. 

On Sunday, Ishraque’s supporters announced a partial scaling back of their protests to allow daily services to resume, though they initially kept the administrator and engineering departments closed.
