4 killed in bus crash on expressway in Munshiganj

A tragic road accident on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Srinagar upazila, Munshiganj, claimed four lives and injured 14-15 people at around 3 am on Saturday. 

The deceased were bus passengers Zillur Rahman (65) and Md. Jalal (65), both from Jessore Sadar upazila, doctor Abdul Halim (55), and the bus driver’s assistant, Hasib (32).

According to police and eyewitnesses, a Hamdan Express bus traveling from Noapara, Jessore, to Dhaka collided with the rear left side of a goods-laden mini truck near London School, between Singpara-Noapara and Hansara Bridge-2. 

The bus driver lost control over its steering, causing both vehicles to crash into the expressway’s median railing. 

Zillur Rahman and Md. Jalal died instantly, while Abdul Halim and Hasib succumbed to their injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Srinagar Fire Service and police rescued the injured and sent them to the hospital. Abdul Quader Jilani, officer-in-charge of Hasara Highway Police Station, reported that the drivers of both vehicles fled the scene. 

With assistance from the Highway Police, Fire Service, and local administration, traffic was restored. An investigation is underway.
