RAB arrests 'Kobjikata Group' key aide Tunda Babu

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested Md. Babu Khan, alias Tunda Babu (31), a key aide of the 'Kobjikata Group' and a teenage gang leader operating in Mohammadpur of Dhaka. 

The arrest took place in Kashiani of Gopalganj on Wednesday.

This information was shared during a press conference held at the RAB Media Center in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka, on Thursday. 

RAB-2 commander Mohammad Khalidul Haque Howlader revealed that during initial questioning, Babu admitted to being the main associate of Mohammadpur’s notorious criminal Anwar, alias Kabjikata Anwar. 

Under Anwar’s directives, Babu engaged in various criminal activities, including extortion, drug trafficking, land grabbing, theft, robbery, and murder in Mohammadpur and its surrounding areas.

Babu’s gang typically operated in small groups during the day, targeting pedestrians in less crowded areas to rob money, mobile phones, laptops, and bags. 

At night, they broke into homes and flats, looting at gunpoint, and also hijacked cars to steal valuables. 

Additionally, Babu and his gang were heavily involved in drug trafficking across multiple areas in the city.

Commander Khalidul Haque said that on February 18, Babu was involved in a public altercation with juvenile gang members at Shyamoli Housing’s Project No. 2, brandishing sharp weapons. 

CCTV footage of the incident went viral on social media. 

Babu was previously arrested by RAB on February 24 but was released on bail on May 5, after which he resumed his criminal activities.
