'Mob situation' created, video spread following dispute between two brothers: RAB

A dispute between brothers Shah Paran and Fajr Ali in Muradnagar of Cumilla led to Shah Paran plotting a mob attack to torture a woman and spread an indecent video of the incident online. 

RAB arrested Shah Paran, identified as the planner, on Thursday in the Kabila Bazar area of Burichang Police Station of Cumilla. 

At a press conference held on Friday at the RAB Media Centre in Karwan Bazar, RAB-11 Commander Lieutenant Colonel HM Sajjad Hossain revealed details of the incident. 

The victim, who had been visiting her father's house for 15 days, was teased by both brothers for a long time. Two months prior, a public altercation at the rural arbitration saw Fajr Ali slap Shah Paran, fueling Shah Paran's desire for revenge. 

Days before the incident, the victim's mother borrowed Tk50,000 from Fajr Ali at interest. On June 26, while the victim's parents were at a fair, Fajr Ali entered their home at 11:30 pm to collect the interest. Shah Paran, along with Abul Kalam, Anik, Arif, Suman, Ramzan, and 8 to 10 others, broke into the house, tortured and abused the woman, recorded obscene videos, and shared them on social media. 

After the incident, Shah Paran and other accused went into hiding, but RAB apprehended Shah Paran using information technology and secret intelligence. 

During interrogation, Shah Paran confessed to planning the attack to take revenge on Fajr Ali, coordinating with others via Imo messages, which RAB obtained. 

The RAB commander emphasised that crime is crime, regardless of political affiliations, and noted that Shah Paran, a CNG driver, had no clear political ties.
