Three of a family burnt in Jatrabari house fire

A couple and their daughter sustained critical burn injuries in a fire that broke out early on Thursday at a house in the capital's Jatrabari area.

The victims were identified as Md Ripon, 40, his wife Eti Aktar, 35, and their four-year-old daughter Rafia. Ripon hailed from Naria upazila in Shariatpur district.

A fire originated from a mosquito coil, and a blast occurred from gas leakage on the ground floor of a six-storey building located on Shaheed Farooq Road, burning all three of them at around 1:45am. They were rushed to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka in critical condition, neighbour Taslima Moni said. 

According to the institute's resident physician, Dr Shaon Bin Rahman, Ripon sustained 70 per cent burns, Eti 45 per cent, and Rafia 90 per cent.
