Economist Abul Barkat arrested in graft case

The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Thursday night arrested economist Prof Abul Barkat from the capital's Dhanmondi area in a corruption case.

He was arrested from his residence on Road No. 3 in Dhanmondi around 11:30pm.

DB Joint Commissioner (South) Mohammad Nasirul Islam confirmed the arrest. 

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), on February 20, filed a case against 23 individuals, including former Bangladesh Bank governor Dr Atiur Rahman and former Janata Bank chairman Abul Barkat, on charges of embezzling Taka 297 crore.
