Writ petition seeks HC order to form judicial commission over Sohag murder

A writ petition has been lodged with the High Court on Sunday, seeking its directive on the government to form a judicial commission to enquire into the brutal killing of businessman Lal Chand Mohammad Sohag in Mitford area of Old Dhaka on July 9.

Advocate Md Eunus Ali Akond, a Supreme Court lawyer, submitted the petition as public interest litigation on Sunday.

He pleaded to the High Court to order the authorities concerned to arrest those responsible for the killing and to provide adequate compensation to the family of the victim.

In the petition, the lawyer also urged the court to force the authorities to send out alerts at all border crossings throughout the nation to stop the criminals from escaping and to take the required actions to protect people's lives and property.

He went on to say that Monday he would try to get the writ suit before the High Court.

Sohag was beaten to death on Wednesday near the entrance of Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital after being taken out of his Old Dhaka business in broad daylight. 

Large pieces of concrete crushed his body. Later, while passersby watched in horror, his mangled and bruised body was abandoned on the street.
