Low pressure over Bay of Bengal, signal 3 raised

A low-pressure area has formed over North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has said. 

Under its influence, a steep pressure gradient lies over North Bay and adjoining areas. Gusty or squally weather may affect the maritime ports, the North Bay, and adjoining areas of Bangladesh, BMD said in a warning message issued Monday (July 14), signed by Meteorologist Md Tariful Newaz Kabir.

Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal no. Three (R) three. 

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to come close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice. 

In a separate warning, inland riverports of Faridpur, Madaripur, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, and Noakhali were advised to hoist cautionary signal no. one (R) one. 

Meanwhile, the regular weather forecast bulletin issued by the BMD on Monday has predicted light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers at most places over all eight divisions. Moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall was also predicted over Dhaka, Khulna, and Barishal divisions. 

On the other hand, a moderate heat wave is sweeping over the district of Nilphamari. A mild head wave is sweeping over Rajshahi division, Sylhet division, the rest of Rangpur division, and the districts of Tangail, Mymensingh, Chuadanga, and Kushtia. It is likely to abate. 

Day and night temperatures may fall by 1-2 degrees Celcisu all over the country, the bulletin added.
