'Hot Media Test' begins at Rooppur project

The first unit of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Project has started a 'hot media test' or steam emission test. It may cause unexpected noise.

The test, which began on Sunday, is testing the functionality of the main steam pipeline of the nuclear plant. 

Consequently, high-pressure steam will be released into the atmosphere through a specific pipe. At this time, there may be a sudden loud noise like a jet engine, which will continue intermittently for the next five-six days.

The project authorities have assured everyone that this process is pre-planned and completely safe.

Rooppur Project Managing Director Dr. Zayedul Hasan said that this sound or emitted steam is not a warning of danger. This is a technical test conducted following international standards, which is part of ensuring the safety and stability of the nuclear power plant.

The Russian contractor, Atomstroy Export, has also informed that although there may be unusual noise during this test, it is completely controlled and safe. The public should not be unduly worried.

Meanwhile, an AI-based operator information support system has been trialled at a nuclear power plant in Russia, which is considered a reference for the Rooppur Nuclear Power Project in Bangladesh, said a message sent to the media from the Rooppur Project on Monday.
