Mitford murder: One more suspect arrested

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested another man for his suspected involvement in the killing of a scrap trader Sohag, near Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital in Old Dhaka on July 9.

The arrestee was identified as Md Nannu. RAB-11 arrested him from Narayanganj port at around 1 am on Tuesday, Captain Lt Col HM Sazzad Hossain confirmed the matter to the media on Tuesday morning. 

Till now, eight people have been arrested in connection with the murder.

RAB said that Nannu was hiding at his uncle's house in Balia village of Kalagachia union. He was apprehended on secret information. He confessed to his involvement in the Sohag Murder. He has been handed over to RAB-10 for further legal procedure. 

Earlier on July 9, a scrap metal trader Lal Chand, also known as Sohag, 39, was hacked, beaten, and stoned to death near a gate of Sir Salimullah Medical College and Hospital. 

Sohag, the victim, son of Yusuf Ali Hawlader, was a resident of Purbo Namabari village in Keraniganj. He had been running a scrap business in Rani Ghosh Lane of Old Dhaka for many years.

Two Jubo Dal leaders were expelled over the trader's murder at Mitford. 

Two separate cases - one for murder and another under the Arms Act - have been filed with the Kotwali Police Station.
