1 killed, 15 injured in Uttara 'training plane' crash

A 'training plane' of the Bangladesh Air Force crashed in the capital's Diyabari area of Uttara, leaving one person dead at 1:18 pm on Monday.

At least 15 people injured in the incident have been rescued and admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Fire Service Control Room Officer Lima Khan confirmed the death of one person to The Daily Samakal.

He said that eight units from Uttara, Tongi, Pallabi, Kurmitola, Mirpur, and Purbachal fire stations are working to control the fire. The rescue operation is ongoing.

After the plane crashed, two platoons of BGB joined the rescue operation and maintain law and order. Members of the army, police, and RAB also joined the rescue operation.

Earlier, the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate—ISPR said that the Air Force's F-7 BJI training plane took off at 1:06 pm.

Eyewitnesses said that the plane crashed on the Milestone School and College campus in Uttara.

Milestone College Public Relations Officer Shah Bulbul told The Daily Samakal, "A classroom adjacent to the school's canteen was damaged in the plane crash. Security forces have cordoned off the entire area. College authorities are also not being allowed to go to the scene."

Meanwhile, videos circulating on social media showed plumes of smoke rising into the sky. Students and the general public were seen crowding the crash site.
