19 killed, 50 injured in aircraft crash at Milestone School: Fire Service

At least nineteen people have been killed in a Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft crash into the Milestone School and College campus in Uttara of the capital.

Fire Service Director General Zahed Rahman confirmed the casualties at a press conference on Monday.

A Bangladesh Air Force F-7 BJI training aircraft crashed into the Diyabari area of Uttara in Dhaka, at 1:18 pm on Monday, killing one person and injuring many others with burns. 

The plane, which took off at 1:06 pm according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), crashed on the campus of Milestone School and College.

Burned and injured victims are being transported to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), with at least 30 injured reported so far. 

Eight fire service units from Uttara, Tongi, Pallabi, Kurmitola, Mirpur, and Purbachal are working to extinguish the fire, while rescue operations continue. 

Two platoons of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), along with army, police, and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel, are assisting with the rescue and maintaining order.

Lima Khan, an officer from the Fire Service control room, confirmed the fatality to The Daily Samakal. 

Shah Bulbul, Public Relations Officer at Milestone College, reported damage to a classroom near the school’s canteen. Security forces have cordoned off the area, restricting access, including to college authorities.
