Protest erupts as advisers visit Milestone jet crash site

Protests erupted at the Milestone School and College in the capital’s Uttara on Tuesday when Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul went to visit the site of a Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) fighter jet crash. 

Education Adviser Prof Dr C R Abrar, Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, and Chief Adviser's Special Assistant Faiz Ahmed Taiyeb were also visiting the location at around 10:30am on Tuesday. 

Students started protesting as the advisers finished their visit at the school and were on their way out. Later, the adviser held a meeting at building no. 5 of the school. He reassured the students that all their demands will be met. 

The death toll has reached 27 after a Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) FT-7 BGI fighter aircraft crashed into a building of Milestone School and College in the capital’s Uttara area on Monday afternoon. 

A total of 78 people are receiving treatment at various hospitals. Till now, 20 bodies have been handed over to their families. 

The aircraft crash on Monday occurred due to a mechanical fault after taking off from the Bangladesh Air Force Base AK Khandaker in Kurmitola at 01:06 pm as part of a regular training, the ISPR said.

The FT-7 jet crashed into a building of Milestone School and College at around 1:18pm on Monday, fire service sources said. Till now, 171 people have been found to be injured in the crash.
