Election schedule in first half of December: EC Sanaullah

The schedule for the National Assembly elections will be announced in the first half of December, said Election Commissioner (EC) Brigadier General (retd) Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah.

He made the disclosure at a press conference at the Election Commission in Agargaon in the capital on Thursday.

He said that starting next month, the Election Commission will work on voter education of expatriates. The code of conduct for political parties and candidates has also been finalised.

The Election Commissioner said that the challenge for expatriate voters is that if a candidate loses his candidacy, the commission will stop postal ballots in that seat.

The postal ballot will cost expatriates six to seven crore taka for every lakh voters. According to the Voter List Act, those who will vote by October 31 will be included in the voter list.

Stating that the commission's meeting as of today has been postponed, he also said that those who will be voters until October 31 will be able to vote in the next national election.

He said that the symbol will be given, but not the candidate name. The symbol ballot will go to the expatriates. Such steps have been taken to reduce the time. And the entire process will be completed through the Bangladesh Post Office.
