Ex-MP Solaiman Salim remanded in Saifullah killing case

A court has placed former Member of Parliament (MP) from Dhaka-7 constituency, Solaiman Salim, on a three-day remand in a case lodged over the killing of college student Khalid Saifullah during the July-August mass uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiak passed the order on Monday as police produced the former lawmaker before the court and pleaded to place him on a seven-day remand in the case.

According to the case documents, Khalid Hasan Saifullah, an HSC first-year student of Ideal College in Lalbagh Government Residential Area, was shot on July 18, 2024, while taking part in an anti-discrimination student movement. He died of his injuries. 

Saifullah's father, Kamrul Hasan, filed the case with the Lalbagh Police Station on August 19, 2024, against 52, including the ousted prime minister, Sheikh Hasina. 

Solaiman Salim, one of the accused in the case, was arrested from the city's Gulshan area on November 14 last year.
