Rickshaw-puller held from Dhanmondi 32 secures bail

A court has granted bail to a rickshaw puller who was arrested from the capital's Dhanmondi 32 area on August 15.

Md. Azizur Rahman, 27, was arrested after he was subjected to lynching and mob violence when he went there to pay his respect to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. After his arrest, police sent him to a Dhaka court on August 16 as a suspect in a case registered with Dhanmondi Police Station in April. 

On Sunday, the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's court granted him bail. 

Meanwhile, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in a statement has confirmed that Md. Azizur Rahman was not accused of a murder case. 

Also on Sunday, the interim government has sought an explanation from the officer-in-charge of Dhanmondi Police Station, asking to clarify on what basis Md. Azizur Rahman was arrested as a suspect in a case.
