ACC launches drive at Petrobangla over alleged irregular appointments, promotions

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Thursday conducted a drive at Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Resources Corporation (Petrobangla) over the alleged irregular appointments and promotions, awarding work orders to BCSCL in exchange for excessive money.

ACC’s Deputy Director (Public Relations), Akhtarul Islam, said a special drive was conducted today from the ACC head office.

During the drive, he said the ACC team found sufficient documents of irregularities, including violation of seniority rules and non-completion of service tenure in feeder posts and promotion to the post of director.

Besides, the ACC enforcement team found evidence of contract renewal without a tender process with GTC, the contractor of Madhyapara Granite Mining Company.

During the operation, relevant records were collected. A detailed report will be submitted to the commission after reviewing the collected records, said the ACC official.

Meanwhile, an enforcement team from the Kushtia Integrated District Office of the ACC conducted a drive on allegations of irregularities at the Daulatpur Upazila Health Complex in Kushtia district.

During the inspection, the quality and quantity of food were checked, and some service recipients were quizzed in this connection.

The team came to know that although there are 25 approved doctor posts, only 8 doctors are currently working.

On the other hand, an average of more than one hundred patients is admitted to the 50-bed hospital every day. As a result, it has become very difficult to provide services to patients with a limited number of doctors and beds.

Another ACC team of the Rangamati Integrated District Office conducted a drive over the allegation of irregularities in the implementation of the 'Kaptai Lake Water Supply Project' in Rangamati.

The team visited the Public Health Engineering Department and collected records related to the complaint.

It was revealed that the work was given to the second-lowest responsive bidder instead of the lowest bidder in this project costing Tk 334 crore.
