Bangladesh demands Pakistan's apology for 1971 genocide: Foreign Affairs Adviser

Bangladesh has called on Pakistan to issue an apology for the 1971 genocide. 

Following a meeting with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Sunday, Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain stated, "We seek accountability and resolution on financial matters. We urge Pakistan to express regret for the genocide committed here and offer an apology. Additionally, we want them to repatriate the stranded individuals."

Earlier, Ishaq Dar claimed that the 1971 issue was settled in 1974 and 2002. 

However, Md. Touhid Hossain firmly disagreed, saying, "I absolutely do not agree. If we had agreed, the matter would have been resolved as they claim."

Touhid further noted, "We have clearly presented our respective positions. The fact that we are discussing a single issue can be seen as progress. We have outlined our stances on three key points."

He added, "Both sides agree that resolving these issues is essential to move past them and advance bilateral relations smoothly. We have committed to further discussions to address these matters in a way that allows us to put them behind us."
