Engineering students block Shahbagh for the 2nd day

Engineering students have blocked the capital's Shahbagh intersection with three demands for the second day. As part of their scheduled 'Long March to Dhaka' programme, they gathered on the main road of Shahbagh at around 11am on Wednesday. 

The blockade caused heavy traffic congestion at Shahbagh and the adjacent area, causing trouble for commuters. 

Their specific demands are:

1. Abolish the 33 per cent quota for diploma engineers in ninth-grade positions and base appointments on merit.

2. Eliminate the 100 per cent quota for diploma engineers in tenth-grade positions, opening them to all candidates.

3. Restrict the use of the "Engineer" title to those without a B.Sc degree, with legal action against unauthorised use.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Ramna DC Masud Alam said diversions have been placed at Katabon, Matsya Bhaban, and Intercontinental intersections to tackle the traffic congestion.
