CUCSU election on October 12

Chittagong University (CU) has released the election schedule for the Chittagong University Central Students' Union (CUCSU) and hall councils, the first such elections in 35 years, set for October 12, 2025.

Prof Dr Monir Uddin, Chief Election Commissioner for the CUCSU polls, announced the schedule at 3:00 pm on Thursday in the Social Sciences Faculty auditorium.

"It’s an honour to lead the election committee for this historic event. We are committed to transparency, with all election details available on the university website. We urge everyone’s cooperation for a free and fair election," he stated.

Prof Dr AKM Ariful Haque Siddique, member secretary of the election committee, noted that a draft code of conduct, aligned with the university’s constitution, will be posted on the website within one or two days.

The election timeline is as follows: the draft voter list will be released on September 1, with objections accepted until September 4. The final voter list will be published on September 11. Nomination papers will be available and accepted from September 14 to 17, with scrutiny on September 18. The initial candidate list will be announced on September 21, with withdrawals permitted until September 23. The final candidate list will be released on September 25, and voting will occur on October 12.

A total of 25,752 students from 14 halls, one hostel, and 54 departments are eligible to vote.
