High Court Justice Md Akhtaruzzaman resigns

Justice Md Akhtaruzzaman of the High Court Division submitted his resignation on Sunday, Supreme Court Registrar General Habibur Rahman Siddiquee confirmed. 

Previously, Justice Md Akhtaruzzaman was sent on holiday. He was summoned by the Supreme Judicial Council to provide an explanation for irregularities in person on July 1. After providing explanations, he submitted his resignation to Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, who, in turn, sent the resignation letter to the President. 

The President had ordered a full investigation into Justice Md Akhtaruzzaman on March 23 this year. 

It may be noted that Md Akhtaruzzaman was the trial judge in the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case against BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
