Mahin withdraws, backs Abu Baker

Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) GS (General Secretary) candidate Mahin Sarkar has withdrawn from the race and expressed his support for Abu Baker Mojumder. 

Mahin was contesting from an independent panel, while Abu Baker is from the Bangladesh Ganatantrik Chhatra Sangsad (BGCS) panel. 

The announcement was made at a press conference at the Madhur Canteen in DU at around 11:30am on Friday. 

"Unity among the forces of the uprising was more important than individual candidacy," Mahin said. 

Both Mahin and Abi Baker were coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement during the July Mass Uprising. Mahin was expelled from Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) for forming his own panel. However, it has been speculated that he may return to the party.
