Chief Adviser orders timely, transparent BCS exams

Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has directed that the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examination be conducted annually on a fixed schedule, ensuring transparency. 

He issued these instructions during a meeting with Public Service Commission (PSC) officials at Jamuna State Guest House on Sunday.

Dr. Yunus emphasised, "The BCS exam and recruitment process must adhere to a specific annual timeline. As the entry point to government service, the BCS exam shapes the future administration. Any irregularities at this stage will affect the entire system." 

He urged stakeholders to address existing issues responsibly and implement necessary reforms to ensure a robust process for future governance.

PSC Chairman Professor Dr. Mobasher Monem highlighted efforts to secure financial and administrative autonomy for the commission. 

He noted that a five-year roadmap has been established, with the examination and recruitment process scheduled from November to October of the following year.

Commission members acknowledged that political interference, nepotism, and question leaks have marred the BCS examination over the past 15 years. 

They confirmed that reforms have been introduced to eliminate irregularities, restore public trust in the PSC, and enhance the quality of question papers to prepare candidates for global competition.

The meeting was attended by PSC Chairman Professor Dr. Mobasher Monem, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration Dr. Md. Mokhles Ur Rahman, Principal Secretary to the Chief Adviser Sirajuddin Mia, and PSC members Md. Sujayet Ullah, Md. Zahirul Islam Bhuiyan, Professor Dr. M Sohel Rahman, Professor Dr. Chowdhury Saima Ferdous, Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. Md. Anwarul Islam, Professor Dr. Shahnaz Sarkar, and Secretary of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission Secretariat Dr. Md. Sanwar Jahan Bhuiyan.
