OC withdrawn after controversial social media post supporting chhatra dal in DUCSU election

Mohammad Mozaffar Hossain, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station, was withdrawn on Tuesday night and reassigned to the Police Lines. 

He has been replaced by Azharul Islam, previously the OC of Nasirnagar Police Station.

The withdrawal follows backlash over a Facebook post where OC Mozaffar expressed support for the Chhatra Dal panel in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election. 

The post, made late Monday night, featured a photo card displaying the numbers 21, 17, and 08—representing the Chhatra Dal candidates for Vice President, General Secretary, and Assistant General Secretary, respectively—along with a caption wishing “Good luck to the meritorious.”

The post sparked widespread criticism on social media, as government employees are legally prohibited from publicly expressing political views or engaging in political activities. 

The incident was widely reported in various media outlets, intensifying public scrutiny.

In response to the criticism, OC Mozaffar claimed his Facebook account was hacked and filed a general diary (GD) at his police station. 

However, the following night, he was withdrawn from his post and attached to the Brahmanbaria Police Lines.

Additional Superintendent of Police, Brahmanbaria Sadar Circle, MM Rakib Ur Reza, confirmed the withdrawal.
