Legal measures to be taken if blockade continues: Home Adviser

Legal measures will be taken if the blockade regarding the demarcation of Faridpur-4 constituency is not lifted today (Sunday), Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has warned. 

"No one has the right to block roads. They have taken tens of thousands of people hostage. It cannot be tolerated in any situation. If they do not solve it by today, we will be forced to take legal measures," he said while talking to the media after a meeting at the Secretariat on Sunday. 

The Faridpur-4 constituency includes Bhanga, Sadarpur, and Charbhadrasan Upazilas. Nagarkanda and Saltha Upazilas were part of the Faridpur-2 constituency. However, after the gazette issued by the Election Commission on September 4, Hamirdi and Algi Unions from the Faridpur-4 constituency were added to the Faridpur-2 constituency. 

People in Bhanga Upazila started protesting this demarcation on September 5.

At around 9am on Sunday, protesters halted the Dhaka-bound Nakshikatha train passing the Hamirdi High School area. They have also blocked the Faridpur-Barishal Highway at several locations using logs and burning tyres. 

Bhanga Highway Police Officer in Charge Rokibuzzaman said all kinds of vehicle movement through the upazila was suspended because of the blockade.
