176 Bangladeshis repatriated from Libya

Some 176 Bangladeshis returned to Bangladesh from the Tajura Detention Center in Tripoli, Libya, facilitated by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) on Thursday morning.

They arrived on a Buraq Air flight, specifically UZ 222, operated by Libya’s Buraq Airlines. 

These individuals were residing in Libya irregularly. 

A government official stated that the group was repatriated from Libya on Wednesday with IOM’s assistance and reached Bangladesh the following morning.

Most of these Bangladeshis had entered Libya through human traffickers, aiming to illegally migrate to Europe by sea. And many faced abductions and torture in Libya at various points. 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya, the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, and the IOM are collaborating to ensure the safe return of Bangladeshi citizens held in Libyan detention centers.
