Torrential rain hits Dhaka early on Monday

Heavy rain started lashing Dhaka early on Monday, accompanied by thunder. After hours of deluge, many important roads in Dhaka became severely waterlogged, causing traffic gridlock all over the capital. 

At around 7:30am, roads at Dhanmondi, Asadgate, Kalabagan, Mohammadpur, Mirpur 10, Shewrapara, New Market, Moghbazar and many other areas became waterlogged. In some places, the water level rose up to shoulder height. 

From 12am to 6am, 34 millimetres of rain in Dhaka was recorded by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department. 

Meanwhile, the heavy downpour and subsequent traffic have caused misery for the morning commuters in the city.
