Three shot dead in Khagrachari

Three people were shot dead in Guimara upazila of Khagrachari on Sunday. 

The identities of the deceased have not been known yet. Their bodies have been sent to Khagrachari District Hospital.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Chattogram Range Ahsan Habib Palash confirmed the matter to Daily Samakal.

Meanwhile, the Home Ministry has issued a statement on the casualties in Khagrachari. 

It says, "Three people were killed in an attack by miscreants in Guimara upazila of Khagrachari. A total of 13 army personnel, including a major, three policemen, including the OC of Guimara police station, and many others were injured."

The Home Ministry has expressed deep sorrow over the incident. 

The ministry's statement said that legal action will be taken against those involved in the incident after an immediate investigation.

The Home Ministry has called on everyone concerned to remain calm.

A blockade programme has been going on since Saturday morning under the banner of 'Jumma-Chhatra Janata' to protest the rape of a teenager in Khagrachari. 

Due to blockade, traffic movement on the Chattogram-Khagrachari, Khagrachari-Rangamati and Khagrachari-Sajek roads is closed.

Earlier on Sunday afternoon, a fire broke out in Ramesu Bazar under Guimara Upazila of Khagrachari, amid a blockade organised by 'Jumma-Chhatra Janata' protesting the gang rape of a hill girl. 

The blaze destroyed approximately 20 shops and adjacent houses. 

Eyewitnesses described the arson as a deliberate act by a group of 20-25 masked individuals who looted shops and homes before setting them ablaze, along with several motorcycles. 

Dwipayan Tripura, an organiser of 'Jumma Chhatra-Janta', said the fire incident occurred while a meeting with top government officials, including the Hill Tracks Affairs Adviser, was underway at the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
