49th special BCS exam scheduled for October 10 with 312,000 applicants

The Public Service Commission (PSC) has organised the 49th Special BCS to address the teacher shortage in government colleges and teacher training institutes.

This exam aims to recruit 683 education cadre positions.

The written exam, consisting of a 200-mark MCQ, is set for October 10, from 10 am to 12 noon, and will be held exclusively in Dhaka.

A total of 312,000 job seekers have applied, resulting in approximately 456 candidates competing for each cadre post. As this is a special BCS for the education cadre, competition will vary by department, with candidates from specific departments vying for posts within their field.

Unlike the general BCS, the 49th Special BCS skips the preliminary exam and proceeds directly to a 200-mark MCQ written exam, followed by a 100-mark oral test for those who pass.

The PSC issued the exam notification on July 21, with online applications accepted from July 22 to August 22.

Candidates who completed their applications by the deadline had until August 25, 11:59 pm, to pay the fee—Tk200  for general candidates and Tk50 for minority ethnic, disabled, and third-gender candidates.

The age limit for applicants is 21 to 32 years.

The recruitment will fill 653 lecturer vacancies in government general colleges across various departments, including 61 in Bengali, 55 in Political Science, 50 in English, 40 in Economics, 30 in Philosophy, 30 in Chemistry, and 32 in Islamic History and Culture.

Additionally, 30 lecturer positions will be filled in government teacher training colleges.
