Nagorik Platform mourns death of Professor Dr. Tofail Ahmed

The Nagorik Platform mourns the loss of Professor Dr. Tofail Ahmed, a distinguished local government expert and cherished ally, who passed away on Wednesday, leaving a profound void in Bangladesh’s civic and academic communities.

Professor Ahmed was a passionate advocate for grassroots empowerment, dedicating his career to strengthening Bangladesh’s local government systems and fostering civic consciousness, said  a press release.

His expertise and commitment to reform left an indelible mark on the nation’s governance landscape.

Most recently, on September 1, 2025, Professor Ahmed attended the launch of the “Bangladesh Reform Watch,” an initiative by the Nagorik Platform. His insightful contributions and valuable suggestions enriched the programme, reflecting his deep experience and vision for a stronger, more inclusive governance framework.

“The void created by his passing will be felt for a long time,” said Dr. Debapriya Bhattacharya, Convenor of the Nagorik Platform and Honorable Fellow at the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD). 

“Professor Ahmed’s legacy will continue to inspire our efforts toward grassroots empowerment and systemic reform.”
