49th Special BCS exam for teacher recruitment set for Friday

The Public Service Commission (PSC) is conducting the 49th Special BCS to address the shortage of teachers in government colleges and teacher training institutes. 

This recruitment drive aims to fill 683 education cadre positions.

The written exam, consisting of a 200-mark MCQ test, is scheduled for October 10, from 10 am to 12 pm, and will be held exclusively in Dhaka. 

Over 3.12 lakh candidates from across the country have applied, resulting in approximately 456 applicants competing for each post. 

As this is a special BCS for the education cadre, competition varies by department, with candidates from specific departments vying for posts within those fields.

Unlike the general BCS, the Special BCS skips the preliminary exam and directly conducts a written MCQ test, followed by a 100-mark oral exam for those who pass. 

The PSC issued the notification for the 49th Special BCS on July 21, with online applications accepted from July 22 to August 22. 

Candidates who completed their applications by the deadline could pay the fee until August 25, 11:59 pm. 

The application fee was Tk 200 for general candidates and Tk 50 for ethnic minorities, disabled, and third-gender candidates. 

The age limit was set at 21 to 32 years.

Of the 683 vacancies, 653 are for lecturer positions in various departments at government colleges, and 30 are for government teacher training colleges. 

The highest number of vacancies is in the Bengali department (61 posts), followed by political science (55), English (50), economics (40), philosophy (30), chemistry (30), and Islamic History and Culture (32), among others.
