Shibir dominates CUCSU Elections, secures 24 posts including VP, GS

In the CUCSU elections, the Chhatra Shibir-backed 'Samapritir Chhatra Jote' panel achieved a landslide victory, clinching 24 out of 26 posts, including the key positions of Vice President (VP) and General Secretary (GS).

Chhatra Dal secured one post, while an independent candidate claimed the remaining position.

The unofficial results for 14 halls and one hostel were announced by CUCSU Chief Election Commissioner Professor Monir Uddin at approximately 4:30 am on Thursday, October 16.

According to the announcement, Ibrahim Hossain Rony won the VP post with 7,221 votes, and Sayeed Bin Habib secured the GS post with 7,295 votes.

Chhatra Dal’s Ayyubur Rahman Toufiq won the Assistant General Secretary (AGS) post with 6,441 votes, while independent candidate Tamanna Mahbub Preeti won the co-sports secretary position.

Voting took place on Wednesday, starting at 9 am across 15 centers in five faculty buildings and concluding at 4 pm.

Vote counting began at 6:40 pm simultaneously at multiple locations, including the Faculty of Sociology, Business and Administration Faculty Building, Shaheed Hridoy Tarua Faculty Building (New Arts), Faculty of Engineering Building, and Faculty of Science Building.

This election marked a significant event, being the first in 35 years since the last one in 1990.

A total of 27,516 voters, including 11,156 female students, participated in the polls. Out of 908 candidates, 415 competed for 26 posts in the central union, while 493 contested for positions in the 14 halls and one hostel.
