Fire breaks out at Shahjalal airport cargo village

A fire erupted in the cargo village at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 2:15 pm on Saturday. 

Airport authorities have confirmed that flight operations remain unaffected.

Mohammad Kausar Mahmud, Assistant Director and Public Relations Officer of the Civil Aviation Authority, told Daily Samakal that the fire started suddenly in the cargo area. 

Airport fire services, the air force fire unit, and other agencies promptly responded and are working to extinguish the blaze. Efforts to control the fire are ongoing.

Rafi Al Faruk, duty officer at the Fire Service Control Room, told Daily Samakal that the fire service was notified at 2:30 pm about the fire eruption. 

Four fire units arrived at the scene by 2:34 pm, with nine additional units dispatched to assist, he added. 

The cause of the fire remains unknown, and no casualties have been reported so far.
