Fire at Shahjalal airport cargo village: Two platoons BGB deployed

A massive fire broke out at the Cargo Village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 2:15 pm on Saturday, October 18, 2025. 

The blaze, which started in a courier godown and rapidly spread, has prompted a large-scale response. 

Thirty-one Fire Service units are currently battling the fire, with five additional units en route, according to Fire Service media officer Talha Bin Jasim. 

Two platoons of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed to assist with rescue operations, as confirmed by BGB Public Relations Officer Md. Shariful Islam.

The Fire Service was alerted at 2:30 pm, dispatching four units to the scene by 2:34 pm. 

Additional units arrived progressively to combat the fire. 

Mohammad Kausar Mahmud, Assistant Director of the Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority, reported that the airport’s fire section, Bangladesh Air Force fire units, and other agencies are actively working to control the blaze. 

The Bangladesh Navy is also assisting in the efforts, as per an ISPR statement.

Flight operations at the airport have been temporarily suspended due to the fire. 

An eyewitness reported that the fire originated in the courier godown before spreading uncontrollably. 

Mahbubul Alam Neon, an official from AFM Trade International, stated that imported goods placed at the cargo village around noon were completely destroyed.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, and no casualties have been reported so far, according to Fire Service Control Room Duty Officer Rafi Al Faruk.
