Fire at Shahjalal Airport Cargo Village: 17 Ansar members injured, 9 admitted to CMH

Seventeen Ansar members were injured during a fire control and rescue operation at the Cargo Village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. 

Nine critically injured members are receiving treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), while seven others were admitted to Kurmitola General Hospital.

Deputy Director Ashiquzzaman, spokesperson for Bangladesh Ansar and VDP, confirmed the incident on Saturday. 

He reported that Ansar members recovered Tk 5 crore from the City Bank booth during the operation. 

Approximately 1,000 Ansar members assigned to airport security are actively assisting in fire control and rescue efforts alongside the army and air force.

The fire, which broke out at 2:15 pm on Saturday in the import cargo area near Gate No. 8, involved chemicals, garments, electronics, and machinery. 

The Fire Service was notified at 2:30 pm, dispatching four units by 2:34 pm. 

A total of 37 Fire Service units are currently working to control the blaze, with five additional units en route, according to Fire Service media officer Talha Bin Jasim.

Ansar North Zone Commander Golam Maulah Tuhin stated that Ansar members detected the fire early, alerted authorities, and courageously attempted to contain it despite significant risks. 

The Bangladesh Ansar and VDP are closely monitoring the situation, ensuring medical treatment and support for the injured members.
