Cargo village fire not fully extinguished, smoke continues to rise

The blaze that broke out at the Cargo Village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on Saturday afternoon has not been fully doused. Smoke was still rising from the ruins on Sunday morning as the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) continued to spray water. 

Confirming the matter, FSCD Headquarters Control Room Official Lima Khanam said the recovery operation is underway. 

A large number of police members were deployed there, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Uttara Division Deputy Commissioner Md Muhidul Islam said. He added that so far, no case has been filed in this incident. 

The fire, which erupted around 2:15 pm, was contained following a prompt and coordinated effort by the Fire Service and Airport Authority, while no casualties have been reported in the incident, according to the civil aviation and tourism ministry. 35 people, including 25 Ansar members, were injured while battling the fire.
