Public support cannot be suppressed by terrorism: A. K. Azad

Former Faridpur-3 MP and ex-FBCCI president A.K. Azad stated that the attack in Parmanandapur was triggered by his protests against extortion and illegal sand extraction from the Padma River. 

He asserted, "Public support cannot be suppressed through terrorism," attributing the attack to jealousy over his popularity.

Speaking to reporters on Monday morning, Azad addressed the assault that occurred during his public meeting in Parmanandapur of Faridpur Sadar Upazila on Sunday. 

The attack was allegedly carried out by local Jubo Dal leaders and activists.

Azad condemned the incident, calling it a barrier to fair elections. 

"I was elected as an independent MP in 2024 by confronting terrorists, and we will continue to stand with the people against such forces," he said.

On Sunday at around 4:00 pm, Azad visited Parmanandapur Bazar in Krishna Nagar Union of Faridpur Sadar. After offering Asr prayers at the local Jama Masjid, when he was preparing for a public meeting, a procession led by former Sadar Upazila Jubo Dal joint secretary Lutfar Rahman and Krishnanagar Union Jubo Dal president Nannu Mollah arrived, shouting slogans targeting Azad. 

The processionists chanted "Action Action Direct Action" and slogans supporting Nayab Yusuf, escalating tensions. 

Azad’s security team surrounded him for protection, and police intervened to disperse the Jubo Dal activists. At the police's urging, Azad left the scene.

Condemning the violence, Azad remarked, "Such acts are unprecedented in politics. Even Awami League candidate Shamim Haque did not do such a thing during the last election. The locals do not expect this from Nayab Yusuf. This will only deepen the political crisis."
